NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF THE UNION OF MYANMAR - Global Campus (NUUM)

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Check these FAQs for students.

1. What are the admission criteria for student applicants?

The following criteria will be used to select student applicants for admission:

- High school diploma/GED is required - Students of any nationality will be considered, but candidates in Myanmar and the Myanmar diaspora will be given preference
- English proficiency

2. What is the English proficiency requirement?

Students should submit IELTS/TOEFL scores or any other English proficiency test scores you have taken in the past five years. If you do not have any test scores, please let us know to accommodate your English skill assessment.

3. What is the tuition and fees?

Tuition fees are $150 per credit hour. If a student takes one course that carries 3 credit hours, he or she will need to pay $450 for the course. However, both need-based and merit-based scholarships are available. Students who demonstrate an inability to pay tuition may be awarded full need-based scholarships. In addition to tuition fees, students will be required to pay $50 or 75,000 MMK for registration although it can be waived upon students’ financial need.

4. Are scholarships available?

Both need-based and merit-based scholarships will be available. Students who demonstrate an inability to pay tuition may be awarded full need-based scholarships.

5. How and when will the classes meet?

Classes will meet online at a time that is convenient for students and instructors. Classes will use online communication (e.g., Google Classroom, Zoom).

Synchronous instruction (in which there is interaction between instructors and students in real time) is strongly encouraged. However, up to 50% of in-class time may be asynchronous (with no real time interaction between teachers and students), if appropriate.

6. What is the expected time commitment for students?

A three credit hour course must involve 45 hours of class meeting time over the course of the semester, plus another 45 hours of student preparation. Within this standard, flexibility is allowed in the allocation of time over the course of the semester to meet the needs of students.

7. How will students be graded?

All courses will operate on a pass/fail system. Instructors will be responsible for ensuring that they pass students only if they demonstrate a reasonable level of academic achievement consistent with the level of the course. Students will be offered make-up opportunities if they fail a course due to factors beyond their control.

8. Is the NUUM accredited?

While we are working towards the accreditation, at the moment, the NUUM is not accredited institutionally. However, some courses may be transferable or accepted, or recognized by other academic institutions or your certificate may be recognized by employers.
